Handy Tools

Tools helps our work much easier, it has different functions that is why we all noticed they differ from shapes and sizes. Some are used in building or repairing houses, others are used in repairing vehicles, others used in making other tools. There are a lot of uses of tools, say for example when repairing appliances, we can’t really tell what is wrong with it if we don’t try to see inside of the hardware. That’s where tools come in handy, screw drivers for example, but we need to know what shape of the screw cap head so that we could match it with our screw driver. Say for example if we have hex head cap screw, we should also find a screw driver that fits in that kind of screw. Screws are important, without it an object cannot be assembled and in tact. Tools exist when we step foot on this planet, our ancestors used also tools in hunting and gathering food and even now we also used tools when gathering our supplies. My father has a lot of tools which he kept for future use, when it comes to tools he has it all, you’ll just name it, from the smaller or lighter ones to the bigger or heavier ones. He also has a lot of collection of screws, naming from hex head cap screw to any other type. He knows that screws may be of use in the future.

The tools we use today are very crucial in our day-to-day activities, especially to those carpenters or repairmen. Some tools may share common functionality with one or more tools. In this case a  tool can also be used to substitute another tool. Carpenters for example doesn’t have all the specific  tools, so instead he can use other tools as a substitute. The are also tools that is a multi-use one, it has several of  the basic tools pack in a single object, it can contain a knife, a pair of scissors. The earliest representation of multi-use tool is a Swiss army knife, it is pretty small in shape but has the several tools pack in this object. Computer is also considered a tool, our computers also allows us to create other tools in computing, an example for it is the Microsoft office, the software allows us to create documents in an easy way, with it, no paper can be wasted like due to typographical errors you encounter using a typewriter . Whatever technology is available in our society today is also considered a tool and that doesn’t stop there, technology is still vastly improving and there is still other things that are yet to be discovered.

We shape our tools and then tools shape us. This was famously said by Marshall McLuhan, it  was referring to how we our practices co-evolve with the tools that we use today. That is why some tools can be helpful or sometimes not, depending on how we use it. We humans rely on tools, without it, accomplishing a task can be difficult and can take more time than in using the tools that we have today.
